Hi all,
I had an idea today and while I’m all excited about it, I’m wondering if it is worth the investment (in time and money)
So, look at the picture on the right.
And here, it is important to answer honestly.
Would you buy a USB drive for $10, in a store, online or at a Comic Convention
- 1Gig,
- That looks like a beer bottle,
- The case is in metal with the Drunken Fools logo engraved on it
- can be used as a key chain
- Has a digital version of a 50 pages comic on it, in numerous PDF size: iPad (1024×768), other popular tablets, a full 1920 x 1280 version for a computer, etc..
- Knowing the Printed version of the book is also $10?
- A few extras like Desktop wallpapers
Let me know by voting here. Please provide your comments also, as I said, I need to know if it is worth it for me to do it, as I can’t buy a small quantity of these.
Thanks!

I think it’s a great idea. Wonder if you can make any small Bobana stickers to go on those.
Haha! LOL
That would be funny! They would have a mini engraving of a logo on them as well
Thats actually a WICKED NEAT idea! Why buy a book when you carry it around on your keychain and plug it into your technology thing-a-mah-jiggies!
Only thing missing is the actual booze in the bottle!
really cool idea, only problem is how to autograph it
Well, no artist edition for sure! Or a very tiny pen with great skills to sign very small
I’ve often thought of doing this very thing. However, everytime I’ve looked into the costs were too high for me to consider it. It’d really be great if there was a way to create a read only partition on a thumb drive. The other partion would be for the owners use. Not sure if that could be done. Another thing to consider is a autoexec program to launch a menu. I built a menu for a CDrom I did last year with a digital copy of my book on it. It also included an archive of all my toons up to that point.
For sure, the possibilities are endless for digital stuff. Add the fact they can use it for extra storage as well, as opposed to a CD/DVD.
Regarding read Only stuff, I don’t agree with limiting them to do that. Once they buy it, they use it. It’s like a normal book, you can’t stop them for scanning it.
Antoine! I think it’s a fantastic idea, though I have to confess, I wasn’t on board until I read about all the creator stuff that would be on the thumb drive.
My only reservation in your investment is that I think you should charge more! However, (Now arguing with myself.) you then run into the perceived value of the thumb drive, where you can get a 16G drive for about $20 in most places now.
Could you sell a larger drive and still be profitable at $12-$15? (Here in Canada, the Loonie and Toonie make for easy correct change.)
Could you put more stuff on the drive at no extra cost to you? IE: A sampling of your regular comic not yet in the PDF book?
PS: Could you save money by not engraving and instead putting stickers (which could make for greater variety) that look like beer labels on the drives?
Nice Thoughts Joel,
You’re the first here and on separate conversations that thinks I should charge more, LOL
RE: Stuff on it: It would grow as the months goes. Yes I would have more extra content to put on it, (probably not for FanExpo unfortunately), but extra digital content is easy to do
For the size of the drive, well, the more I had in Gigs, of course, the more the value would increase, and now, I think I would reduce the amount of potential customers, especially at conventions. I haven’t asked for the price for more gigs, but doesn’t cost me anything to ask
Finally the engraving, it’s part of the order actually, so no extra charge for it. Sticker would be cool, but stickers on a key chain? hmm not sure that would last long!
Cheers
Where…The hell…Did you find…A BEER BOTTLE USB. Holy crap. Those things are AMAZING. I don’t think you could get better merch than that. You don’t even need to put crap on it! Just sell it with The Drunken Fools logo and you’re good to go!
LOL, only in Canada
Man that looks cool, still a better deal than the gimmicky ones you’ll see at hot topic, where they charge $15 and up for a one gig.
I like the idea, but definately ask about upping the gigs. With how fast technology moves and updates, by the time you do decide to order the prices may have went down. Remember when 1gigs were around $30 a few years ago?
Great idea, but people may actually think they are those small fridge bottles of Alcohol OR those chocolate covered liquor filled bottles.
Bottle up! Crap! I just broke a tooth…
