Hello Drunken Fools!
So, I was in Chicago last weekend for C2E2! I flew there VERY early Thursday morning and came back way too soon, Sunday.
First, my goal #1 at C2E2 was to enjoy myself. This year it was either the Carribean or Chicago for my vacation. Then, the other goal was to try to sneak and get more readers. Goal #1 was achieved at 120%! Goal #2, I guess I’ll see later
I’ll be doing 2 or 3 reports this week on my amazing time spent there. I would like to thank Byron (1977) and Dawn (Zorphbert & Fred). These two amazing superstars allowed me to get a space of table to put on Promo stuff for my comics, and for this I am extremely grateful to them. They are great people to hang out with. Who doesn’t spend time with an Old Fart and a Crazy Chick anyway?
Today’s report will be focusing on my two biggest surprises of the show:
Surprise #1: The Browncoats
Are you a Firefly/Serenity fan? If yes, then you probably know what a Brown Coat is. If not, well, a Brown Coat is the name of a Firefly/Serenity fan (like a trekkie to Star Trek). There is more to it, but I don’t want to expand on the Brown Coat Definition.
Friday night, after the first day at the con, I met these tattooed guys at the elevator of my hotel. One of them had a badge saying “Brown Coats 4 Ever”. Being a big Firefly fan myself, I started to talk with him. Soon enough, I learned they were in fact a Rock band named The Browncoats. He made me listen a song, which ended up being a rock version of “The Hero of Canton”, song featured in on Firefly episode. I love the song right away. The guys also were all excited with the fact I had my Drunken Fools T-Shirt, telling me they were a bunch of Drunken Fools themselves.
Saturday morning, I went to see these guys at their booth, they were all friendly and I bought their CD/DVD combo, being both a Brown Coat and a Music fan. Gary, the drummer and producer, wanted to see my stuff. So we headed back to Byron and Dawn’s booth where I had my bookmarks and magnets for promo. Gary liked so much the look of Spike drinking through the beer tap, that, after discussions, I will be drawing a drunk character that will be included on their next album’s cover, entitled “Drunk”. Isn’t that frikking cool?
Make sure to check out The Browncoats’ website, their music is actually great, I really liked it (note: if you like Stone Temple Pilots, you should like them)
Surprise #2: My old magnets
Remember this magnet design I did a while ago? Well, I was stuck with those at home and I didn’t want to use them anymore because I wasn’t sure if it was good to use and two characters may end up not being used yet (I dunno yet). Still, I brought them with me.
Well, to my surprise, they were a blast! I simply created an hilarious sales pitch to it, and people where laughing and grabbing one every time. I was simply telling people stuff like: “ you surely look like someone who would like to have four guys pissing on your fridge.” And I was just handing them over
So these were the Two major highlights, directly linked to my art for me this weekend (don’t forget I was there mainly for vacation and to have fun, I had not merchandise to sell)
Stay tuned for other reports and pictures later this week!
Cheers!
