Tuesday’s Drunken Sketch: 2-Point Perspective

May 12th, 2009 | by Antoine

Hola Drunken Fools!

This week’s Sketch is actually the weekly exercise of that very cool group I’m part of, The Sketch-Out. In this week’s exercise, we had to draw a chair using the 2-points perspective method.

I decided to do this exercise by drawing the perfect chair for the Drunken Fools, a Camping Chair! THIS was an amazing exercise and to be honest I am very proud of the results!

Note, I had the chair right in front of me just for the reference, but it was in a different angle to force me to work on the perspective
As usual, you can click on the pictures for a larger version

Step1: I drew the horizon line and placed the 10 most important points of the chair:
step11024

Step 2: I drew the frame and them the actual cover of the chair:

Step3: Final sketch with the design of the chair!

That was very fun!

If you are interested, check out The Sketch-Out group, I actually need to create an exercise for the group this Friday!

Drunken Project: CSI: Webcomics

May 11th, 2009 | by Antoine
Posted In: Blog

Good morning Drunken Fools!

I would like to invite all artists around to the new incoming project me and Dave Anderson (pixelgun.com) started. Dave first started the Comic Strip Improv back in November on the old Halfpixel’s forums.

Comic Strip Improv will be a weekly creative contest for webcomic illustrators of all skill levels. Participants of CSI will have one week to draw a webcomic based on a theme. When the week is up all submissions are voted on with the winning comic getting the most votes. In the future there may be prizes for winning submissions but we designed CSI to be a motivator for aspiring webcomickers to produce more and hope it will be both fun and inspirational.

Please come visit us, register if you are interested. We just launched a “Beta” theme this morning and we really hope you will be part of this new project!

Please feel free to give us any suggestions, comments, questions to us!

Thank you!

Contest! Find a name for Spike’s Guardian Angel!

May 9th, 2009 | by Antoine
Posted In: Blog

ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT!!

It all started here when Spike’s collectible coffee mug of Mats Naslund started to talk to him. Then a Pink elephant showed up after Spike was kicked out of a bar. It turned out the elephant is Spike’s guardian angel and is a shapshifter.

And last Sunday, we are finding out the guardian angel was the Coffee Mug all along.

guardian

Now that I have introduced that character, I need a name for him..her…it…!
NOTE: The Guardian Angel is a shape shifter and the coffee mug is not necessarily his/her/its original form, it was only the 1st form used to appear to Spike for the 1st time.

A contest is in order to find a name to Spike’s guardian angel!

Deadline for submissions : Monday, may 11th, 2009
Submission to be sent by email to: antoine@thedrunkenfools.com with “Guardian Angel Name Contest” as the subject

If I receive enough submission, I will set up a poll in order to vote amongst my favorites.

The winner will have the choice between an Exclusive DF T-Shirt OR an inked drawing on cardboard of the guardian angel, in the form who the winner’s choosing. The guardian is a shape shifter after all :)

Spread the word!

Cheers

Drunken Spotlight: Capes & Babes

Happy Thursday Drunken Fools and welcome to the Drunken Spotlight of the week!

This week, I have the honor to talk about a very great webcomic and colleague from the Webcomic Planet Collective, Capes & Babes by Chris Flick!

capesnbabes

The reason why I’m very happy to do a spotlight on Capes n Babes is for the simple reason I was already an addicted reader before joining the Collective. Look on the right column under “Webcomics I like”, Capes n Babes has been there for a while now.

Chris gets his influence from comic book heroes and real life events surrounding a comic book store in a strip mall. Add to this a werewolf in love with a vampire… if you don’t think THIS is awkward, maybe you should read about werewolves and vampires or just watch the Underworld movies… Also, the werewolf (Roy) and the vampire (Roni) are big fans of Karaoke… making this even more awkward.

Capes n Babes is also about a difficult relationship between Marc & Joey, I’m wondering if they will ever be able to communicate properly to each other. But that is what makes the relation interesting between  the two of them.

Also, indirectly, Chris was some sort of an inspiration for me when I started to add the yellow eyes in my strip a few months ago. I was trying to find a way to make my characters really look drunk when they were totally smashed but I didn’t know what to do. Then I saw this strip and the next one and I knew right away I had to do something with the eyes of my characters.

Anyway, I love Chris’ webcomic and you SHOULD go check it out!
