HelloDrunken Fools!
I said it numerous time, I am a proud member of the Webcomic Alliance, group of Webcomic Creators sharing good and bad practices regarding creating digitial comics. Here’s this week’s summary of what we presented over there.

Monday’s Pick of the Week:
Ken reminded how funny the comic “Company Man” can be. Check this out, and if Ken is convincing you, you would become addicted to this comic!

You can read the entire article by clicking here

Tuesday
, I was in the spotlight! With my report on my experience on my very first Comic Convention in Toronto in August. You saw the pictures already (here), and if you are interested in reading reports more on the business perspective, check this out!

You can read the entire article by Clicking here

Wednesday
, Todd challenges us into our bi-weekly Character Sketch Challenge. This week, we had to draw someone in a trade or profession you would not want to see consulting a “….for Dummies” book. I totally missed the part it says: Trade or Professions and I drew a guy on a deserted Island…. Oopsies! But Character Challenges are fun and the Alliance readers are also invited to participate!

You can see all the submissions by Clicking here

Finally, on Thursday, Byron wrote an article, which only him ca do, generating a great discussion thread. He’s touching the subject of how artists not following schedule can be impacting the relationship with our readers. Sounds familiar…..

Go read the article and all comments, this is an AMAZING read! Do so by clicking here.

Cheers!

Howdy Drunken Fools!
If you already know me, you already know I am part of a great team called the Webcomic Alliance. If you are new here (coming from Toronto!) well, I am proud to say that I am a member of the Webcomic Alliance, group of Webcomic Creators sharing good and bad practices regarding creating digitial comics. Starting today, I’d like to summarize for you what the Alliance has been cooking during the previous week.

Monday’s Pick of the Week:
Todd made me discovered a Sci-Fi webcomic called far from home. If you are a Sci-Fi fan, I would recommend to give this a look!

You can read the entire article by clicking here

Tuesday
, our dear Crazy Chick Dawn Griffin treated us with another cool article on using Adobe Illustrator for drawing. She went throught he part two of the basics on Illustrator. Uning myself Illustrator to draw my comic, these articles she wrote surely helped me a LOT! Check this out!

You can read the entire article by Clicking here

Wednesday
was time to treat your ears with our Bi-Weekly Webcomic Workshop Podcast. We published our 24th episode to date! We were on fire as we were recapping what were some of the impacts on us during Episodes 11 thru 23. It was a VERY silly epsiode, we had  tons of fun (as usual) and we totally added more COWBell!

You can access the podcast by Clicking here

Finally, on Thursday, we had the privilege to get yet another visit from our Doctor Banner (Ken Drab). The Dr. Banner is a great series of article by Ken where he would look at your comic banner and dissect it, using his marketing and design background. Without Ken’s expertise, my site and marketing goodies wouldn’t be looking the same today!

You can read the Dr. Banner’s article by clicking here.

The Fools are Cooking, and you?

November 23rd, 2010 | by Antoine
Posted In: Blog, Blog, Random

Hi Drunken Fools,

If you read this, the chances that you are already aware of this are high, but who knows. You can also use this as a reminder.
I have this project very close to my heart and I really want it to be successful.

“Webcomics: What’s Cooking?” is a collection of custom comics done by 50+ popular webcomic artists. Each comic is food related and joined by a supporting recipe. The concept is to print a collection of recipes for nearly any meal type: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, drinks or cocktails and then highlight each fun food item with a webcomic.

The final product will be a 96 page Cookbook printed in comic book style. The books will be ten inches (10”) tall and seven inches (7”) wide in full color throughout. The books come stapled so they lay flat for easy reading. The cover will printed on glossy card stock which will hold up for years of use.

Every artist involved comes from varied artistic backgrounds of webcomics you know and love; Such as featured artists like: David Reddick of “Legend of Bill”, Brian Anderson of “Dog Eat Doug”, Lora Innes of “The Dreamer”, Irma Eriksson of “Imy the Comic”, Emy Bitner of “Trying Human”, Krishna Sadasivam of “PC Weenies” and many, many more.

The Kickstarter funds will help us cover 50 percent of the first printing of 2000 copies. With your help, we’ll bring fun and food together in classic comic style! Come on board and help us make this fun project a reality!

you can also watch this cool little video:

Please help us now, and help families to get a decent meals for the holidays!

Drunken Spotlight: L.O.S.T. by Keith C. Smith

March 10th, 2010 | by Antoine
Posted In: Blog, Blog, Drunken Reviews, Blog, Random

Hello there Drunken Fools!

I probably said this in the past but one great thing about being part of the Webcomic Planet Collective is we get to meet great people.

One of my colleagues at WCP is a real Renaissance Geek, Keith C. Smith.

Since early 2006, Keith writes and draws a comic called  L.O.S.T. NO, you geeks, not that Lost, if you think you’ll see Evangeline Lilly, get lost (lost.. get it? get it?)!. Erm.. ok, back on the subject. As the author says himself,  L.O.S.T. is a semi-autobiographical comic about himself. The comic is all about his thoughts on life experiences, with a bit of surreal and fantasy at times.

I am urging you to go read that great comic, now, right away! Hey! what did I just say? NOW Stop reading this and go read the comic!

Cheers.

Drunken Review: 1977

March 3rd, 2009 | by Antoine
Posted In: Blog, Blog, Drunken Reviews

1977
Title: 1977 – Life, one toke at a time
Author: W. Byron Wilkins

1977: Star Wars
1977: I was 5 years old for a little portion of the year
1977: Year when my parents moved from a big city to a little town in the boonies

1977: The Comic

While I don’t remember too much of  the 70′s, the musical culture of this period is strongly present in my life and occupies more than 77% of my I-Pod and 77% of my downloaded content in Rock Band.

Last Sunday, at the TGT Webcomics Podcast, W. Byron Wilkins, author of 1977 was the guest of the show. I never heard of the comic before. Before the show, I quickly looked at the comic and saw enough already to get my attention and to log into the show. Before the comic itself, I first discovered the author. Only after a few minutes I told myself, my God, this guy sounds like a radio host. And surely enough, we heard later he did for a News Station, and spent 30 years creating/producing/directing videos (quoted from his own Bio). Something I couldn’t confirm is that I thought I heard him saying he did some Radio Hosting at some point, if he did, I wouldn’t be suprised. On Twitter, Byron describes himself as a “Loveable old fart who draws comics. I could tell, only by listening to him, his Twitter description wasn’t a lie. Byron is a storyteller both “live” and in his webcomic.

If you don’t know the comic yet, now you know for sure when the story is happening. 1977 is about 4 friends, living together, two dudes and two hot chicks and they play in a band; typical dream back in these days. I don’t want to tell too much about the characters and the story as I want you to discover them by yourself, like I did myself Sunday night. What I want to say is that 1977 is all about young adults enjoying life as it was in the 70′s:  Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll, not in that specific order. Follow the heroes of the comic in road trip mini-stories, beer jokes, couch situations and even some fantasy and Sc-Fi situation (are they real or simple results of the weird cigarettes they are smoking, I’ll let you decide!).

Okay, I’m a grown up guy and I have to admit one thing I noticed right away: women with big boobs. But honestly, what really kept my attention and helped me to go through the entire archive,  are the music references in each and every post. The big majority of the strip’s titles are a reference to a song or an album from a Classic Rock band/singer from the 60′s or 70′s.  I did notice a few exception such as when Byron made a reference to Abba, which actually disturbed me for a few seconds or a Title “Pop Goes the Pringles” which is a reference to a 80′s song by Men Without Hats which made me laugh a lot.

Also, what I love about the comic is the fact Byron takes the time to tell a story in his blog linked to the strip, thing that not all fellow webcomickers are doing, unfortunately.

If I had to compare 1977 to a TV Show, I would say a merge between “How I Met Your Mother” and of course, “That 70′s Show”

Finally, if I could suggest something to improve to Byron is the actual Website. It has too much of the Comicpress Theme Layout, and could use some design upgrades. Don’t get me wrong here, Comicpress is a wonderful template for us to use for our webcomics, but the look of your site is also another factor to get some extra readers.

Enough said, I love 1977 and it is now in my Top 5 webcomics!

Cheers!

- Antoine
